- Uses: Mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension); the combination can also be used in patients with cardiovascular conditions such as angina.
- How it works: Amlodipine relaxes blood vessels by blocking calcium entry, while valsartan blocks angiotensin-II, preventing blood-vessel tightening. Together they lower blood pressure.
- How to take: Usually once daily, with or without food, exactly as prescribed.
- Precautions: Monitor blood pressure and kidney function. Tell your doctor if you have kidney/liver disease, high potassium, dehydration, or are taking potassium supplements or certain painkillers (NSAIDs). Valsartan should not be used during pregnancy.
