- How it works: Glibenclamide stimulates the pancreas to release insulin, while metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity.
- How to use: Take exactly as prescribed, generally with or immediately after a meal. Do not skip meals while taking it.
- Precautions: Monitor blood sugar regularly. Use cautiously in kidney or liver disease. Avoid self-medication and excessive alcohol. Glibenclamide can cause significant low blood sugar.
- Side effects: Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset and weakness; rarely, metformin may cause serious lactic acidosis
