  • Drug class: Direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) / Factor Xa inhibitor.
  • Uses: Used to prevent and treat blood clots, including deep-vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and prevention of stroke in certain patients with atrial fibrillation.
  • How it works: Blocks Factor Xa, reducing the formation of thrombin and preventing blood clots.
  • Instructions: Take exactly as prescribed. Rivaroxaban 20 mg should generally be taken with food; do not stop it suddenly without medical advice.
  • Precautions: Use cautiously in kidney or liver disease and in people with bleeding disorders. Tell your doctor before surgery or dental procedures and about other medicines that increase bleeding risk.
  • Side effects: Bleeding, easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, anemia, nausea and dizziness may occur. Seek urgent medical attention for heavy/uncontrolled bleeding or black/bloody stools.
