- Uses: Used to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides, increase HDL (“good”) cholesterol, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke.
- How it works: Blocks HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver, thereby lowering blood cholesterol levels.
- Precautions: Use cautiously in liver or kidney disease. Inform your doctor about other medicines, especially those that can increase the risk of muscle problems. Report unexplained muscle pain or weakness.
