Adapco Forte Gel is a prescription-strength topical retinoid containing Adapalene USP 0.3% w/w — the higher "Forte" concentration, three times the standard 0.1% strength. Adapalene is a third-generation retinoid that works by normalizing the way skin cells in hair follicles develop, which reduces the formation of microcomedones. The earliest, invisible stage of a pimple before it becomes visible.

Adapco Forte is typically prescribed when standard-strength adapalene hasn't been enough, or for moderate-to-severe comedonal, papular, and pustular acne.

How Does Adapco Forte Gel Work?

Adapalene modulates cellular keratinization and the skin's inflammatory response. Its anti-inflammatory effect comes from inhibiting lipoxygenase activity and altering the oxidative metabolism of arachidonic acid — mechanisms that also explain why adapalene tends to cause less irritation than older-generation retinoids like tretinoin.

How to Use Adapco Forte Gel

  1. Cleanse — Wash your face with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser and pat completely dry.
  2. Apply — Apply a thin film to acne-affected areas once daily, at night.
  3. Avoid — Keep away from the eyes, lips, nostrils, and mucous membranes.
  4. Expect mild stinging — A brief warming or stinging sensation after application is normal.
  5. Sun Protection — Apply SPF 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, since adapalene increases photosensitivity.
  6. Be patient — Continue nightly use for at least 12 weeks before evaluating results; an initial "purging" phase in the first few weeks is common with retinoids.

Always follow your dermatologist's specific instructions, as usage frequency may be adjusted based on your skin's response.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription for Adapco Forte Gel?

Yes. Adapco Forte contains Adapalene 0.3%, a prescription-strength retinoid, and must be used under dermatologist supervision.

What's the difference between Adapco Gel and Adapco Forte Gel?

Adapco Forte contains Adapalene at 0.3% — three times the standard 0.1% strength. It's generally prescribed for moderate-to-severe acne or when the standard strength hasn't been effective enough.

How long does Adapco Forte Gel take to work?

Most people see gradual improvement over 8–12 weeks of consistent nightly use. A temporary "purging" phase in the first few weeks is common and usually settles with continued use.

Is sunscreen necessary while using Adapco Forte Gel?

Yes, it's essential. Adapalene increases skin's sensitivity to sunlight, so daily SPF 30+ sunscreen is strongly recommended throughout treatment.

Can Adapco Forte Gel be used during pregnancy?

Adapalene is Pregnancy Category C — safety hasn't been firmly established. Use only if your doctor determines the benefits outweigh potential risks.

What age group can use Adapco Forte Gel?

It's indicated for patients aged 12 and above. It isn't recommended for children under 12.
