- Uses: Treats susceptible bacterial infections, including certain respiratory, urinary, skin, eye and other infections. It is also used for some bacterial sexually transmitted infections and acne when appropriate.
- How it works: Stops bacteria from making essential proteins, preventing their growth and multiplication.
- How to use: Take exactly as prescribed, generally on an empty stomach with plenty of water. Avoid taking it together with milk, antacids, iron or calcium supplements because they can reduce absorption.
- Precautions: Avoid in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children under 8 years unless specifically directed by a doctor. Complete the prescribed antibiotic course and do not use it for viral infections.
- Side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, headache and increased sensitivity to sunlight; severe allergic reactions or persistent diarrhea require medical attention.
