  • Uses: Used to improve blood sugar control in Type 2 diabetes, along with diet and exercise.
  • How it works: Increases the activity of incretin hormones, helping the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is high and reducing excess glucose production by the liver.
  • How to use: Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily, with or without food. The dose may be adjusted in patients with kidney problems.
  • Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of pancreatitis, or are taking insulin/sulfonylureas. Do not use for Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Side effects: Headache, stomach discomfort, nasopharyngitis, joint pain, and mild hypoglycemia (especially when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas) may occur.
