• Generic: Ketoconazole 200mg.
• Drug class: Imidazole antifungal.
• How it works: Inhibits fungal ergosterol synthesis, disrupting the fungal cell membrane and preventing fungal growth.
• Uses: Treatment of certain systemic fungal infections when oral ketoconazole is specifically considered appropriate.
• Adverse effects: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness and rash. Oral ketoconazole can also cause serious liver injury and drug interactions, so it requires medical supervision.
• Dose: 200mg once daily is a commonly listed dose, but oral ketoconazole dosing and duration must be determined by a doctor based on the infection.
• Pack size: 10 tablets.

Important: Oral ketoconazole is not suitable for routine self-treatment of fungal infections because of its potentially serious liver and cardiac risks.
